Mechanicsburg council hires new clerk

MECHANICSBURG – The Mechanicsburg Village Council gathered on Monday, Sept. 16 at a regularly scheduled meeting in the municipal building.

Minutes for the most recent meeting, held on Sept. 2, were approved by council. The meeting minutes stated that after the first executive session, council approved to hire Rebecca Stewart for the clerk position. It was also stated that after the second executive session that day, that council approved appropriation measure 24-05 for retention payments. The minutes stated that it was moved to approve appropriation measure 24-05 “for the sum of $27,903.69.” It went on to say that “the council did agree the $4,000 for Ohio Police and Fire would need to come from the PD budget.”

Village Administrator Roger Brake presented the administrator’s report. Brake shared that he is in the process of painting the municipal building. Mayor Jason Adelsberger thanked Brake for taking the initiative to get the building painted. He said, “It makes a big difference, shows that we care about everything that we’re doing and I think that’s important.”

Brake went on to state that the fire department has been doing some cleaning and reorganizing. Brake stated that the gas line repair is scheduled to be done in mid-October, and the resurfacing of Walnut street will begin near the end of October. Lastly, Brake stated that he is in the process of applying for a principal forgiveness loan for the phase 1 sewer project.

Zoning Officer Dusty Hurst shared that the Board of Zoning Appeals meeting on Thursday, Sept. 12 was held to discuss work needing done at the grain bins. He stated that the building of a new bin was approved. The new grain bin will be approximately 40 feet taller than the current one, and larger in radius as well. Hurst encouraged council members to attend these meetings in the future.

The first reading was conducted of ordinance 24.05 which has to do with new policy regarding food truck operations within the village. A public hearing is scheduled for Oct. 21 and the public is encouraged to attend this meeting.

Mechanicsburg Police Chief David Patrick shared the most recent citation list with council. He also stated that the fire department had assisted in getting a cat safely down from a tree the night before. Patrick also commended his staff with assistance they were able to give for a difficult domestic violence case recently.

Council then went into executive session to discuss personnel issues.

The village council will meet next on Monday, Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the municipal building. Village council meetings are open to the public.
