‘Urbanahenge’ captured on camera

The phenomenon of the sun rising or setting in alignment at the end of an east-to-west street in any given latitude has been recently dubbed a “henge” effect. The name is an homage to the sun angles emphasized by Stonehenge. The phenomenon of an urban “henge” aligned with street grids occurs on different dates at different latitudes. In Urbana, this effect occurred on Wednesday evening, Sept. 11. Pictured is the sun setting directly behind Monument Square, a picture the photographer Andrew Grimm dubbed Urbanahenge.
