WL-S upends Graham; Mechanicsburg, Triad fall

ST. PARIS – Josh Wilcoxon rushed for four touchdowns as West Liberty-Salem opened the football season with a 42-14 win over Graham in non-league action Friday night.

The Tigers led, 21-0, at the end of the first quarter and 35-0 at the half.

For WL-S, Nick Shifflet completed 12 of 15 pass attempts for 158 yards and a touchdown.

For Graham, Gage Stull completed 6 of 15 pass attempts for 87 yards and a TD.

WL-S’s Jack Bahan had 6 receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown and for Graham, Adam Levy had 4 receptions for 68 yards and a TD.

The Tigers had 379 total yards compared to 87 for the Falcons.

Next Friday night, the Falcons play at Mechanicsburg and the Tigers host Ben Logan.

KR 35, Mechanicsburg 21

BELLEFONTAINE – Kenton Ridge defeated Mechanicsburg, 35-21, in a non-league football opener Friday night.

The game was played at Bellefontaine due to issues with KR’s field.

A Conner Eyink seven-yard scoring run early in the first quarter gave the Indians a 7-0 lead.

Kenton Ridge responded with a TD pass four minutes later to make it 7-6.

The Cougars added two more touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 20-7 lead at the half.

For the Indians, a Conley Bogard seven-yard touchdown pass to Austin Haynes late in the third quarter made it 20-14.

Trailing 28-14 midway through the fourth period, Bogard scored on a one-yard run to cut the deficit to 28-21.

Kenton Ridge answered with a TD pass moments later to put the game away.

The Cougars had 312 total yards compared to 232 for the Indians.

Mechanicsburg hosts Graham next Friday night.

Mt. Gilead 46, Triad 19

MOUNT GILEAD – Triad opened the football season Friday night with a 46-19 loss to Mount Gilead in non-league action.

The Cardinals trailed, 20-0, at the end of the first quarter.

A Triad rushing TD early in the second quarter made it 20-6, but a Mount Gilead rushing touchdown seven minutes later gave the home team a 27-6 lead at the half.

A kickoff return for a TD early in the third quarter gave Mount Gilead a 33-6 lead.

Triad scored on a touchdown pass moments later to cut the deficit to 33-12.

Mount Gilead added a rushing touchdown late in the third quarter to make it 40-12.

Triad had 326 total yards compared to 295 for Mount Gilead.

For the Cardinals, Blayk Thomas completed 8 of 15 pass attempts for 155 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The Cardinals host Bucyrus next Friday night.
