Crash in Concord Twp. kills 1, injures others

On Saturday, October 19, 2024 at approximately 11:10 a.m. the Champaign County 911 Center received a call regarding a two vehicle injury traffic crash that had just occurred on N. State Route 560 at Church Road in Concord Township, Champaign County. Champaign County Sheriff’s Deputies, members of the Multi-County Joint Crash Investigation Team, as well as St. Paris JSP Fire/EMS, West Liberty Fire/EMS, Macochee Joint Ambulance District, and Rosewood Fire/EMS were immediately sent to the scene.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered that a 2006 Chevrolet pick-up truck, tan in color, was operated by a single driver, was travelling southbound on N. State Route 560, just north of the Church Road intersection. Additionally, a 2005 GMC pickup truck was travelling northbound on N. State Route 560 near the Church Road intersection, was being operated by a Wade Cook (Age: 21) of Urbana, Ohio; Bryce Zumwalt (Age: 21) from Urbana, Ohio, was a passenger. Upon both vehicles entering the area of N. State Route 560 and Church Road, they collided head-on, both vehicles spun off to the east side of the roadway and came to rest in a field. The 2005 GMC Truck was on its side with the occupants trapped inside. The driver of the 2006 Chevrolet pick-up truck was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver and occupant of the 2005 GMC pick-up had to be extricated by Fire/EMS crews; they were both flown to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight Helicopters.

The identity of the driver of the 2005 Chevrolet pick-up is being withheld at this time until family can be properly notified.

This incident remains under investigation by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, the Multi-

County Joint Crash Investigation Team, and the Champaign County Coroner’s Office.
