Bellefontaine tops Urbana; Graham wins again

Ohio State recruit Tavien St. Clair tossed four touchdown passes as visiting Bellefontaine upended Urbana, 50-19, in CBC/KTD football Friday night.

The Chieftains started the game with the ball at their own 46, but Urbana’s Carson Campbell intercepted St. Clair a play later at the UHS 19.

Moments later, Bellefontaine came up with an interception of its own at the BHS 2.

With four minutes remaining in the first quarter, St. Clair connected with Josh Phillips on a 43-yard touchdown pass to give the Chieftains a 7-0 lead.

The first quarter ended with Urbana driving and Bellefontaine on top, 7-0.

Early in the second quarter, UHS made it to Bellefontaine’s five-yard line but had to settle for a Grady Lantz field goal to make it 7-3.

The Chieftains went up 13-3 after an 11-yard TD run with nine minutes left in the second quarter.

Two minutes later, an 87-yard run gave Bellefontaine a 20-3 lead.

UHS drove to the Bellefontaine 22 midway through the second quarter but ended up punting.

The Hillclimbers drove to the Chieftain 25 later in the second quarter but Lantz was intercepted by Braylon Newcomb.

With two minutes remaining in the second quarter, St. Clair hooked up with Ayden Clary on a 65-yard touchdown pass to make it 27-3.

Lantz booted a short field goal as time expired to cut the deficit to 27-6 at the half.

On the second play of the third quarter, Bellefontaine’s Jayden Temple came up with an interception deep in Urbana territory.

Moments later, St. Clair connected with Clary on a seven-yard TD pass to make it 34-6.

Urbana’s Colton Teepe returned the ensuing kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown to cut the Chieftains’ lead to 34-13.

Bellefontaine responded with a field goal to make it 37-13.

St. Clair scored on a two-yard run late in the third quarter to give the Chieftains a 44-13 lead and start a running clock.

A St. Clair touchdown pass with eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter gave Bellefontaine a 50-13 lead.

Lantz connected with Bizz Cain on a TD pass in the final seconds to round out the scoring.

Urbana (6-2, 1-2) plays at winless Tecumseh next Friday night.

Northwestern 37, Graham 21

SPRINGFIELD – Graham stunned Northwestern, 37-21, in CBC/MRD football Friday night.

The score was tied, 7-7, early in the second quarter and Graham took a 14-7 lead at the half.

The Falcons owned a 27-14 lead over the Warriors (5-3, 2-1) after three quarters.

Graham (2-6, 2-1) – which has won two straight games – hosts North Union next Friday night.
