MECHANICSBURG – Josh Wilcoxon rushed for 200 yards and two touchdowns as West Liberty-Salem defeated Mechanicsburg, 42-13, in OHC football Friday night.

The Tigers recovered their own onside kick to start the game at the M’burg 46, but the drive ended on downs at the Indians’ 17.

Later, WL-S’s Hunter Knotts returned a fumble 50 yards for a touchdown at 3:41 of the first quarter to make it 7-0.

The Indians drove to the WL-S 29 midway through the second quarter but turned it over on downs.

Moments later, Wilcoxon ran 63 yards for a touchdown to give the Tigers a 14-0 lead.

WL-S’s Mark Bair returned a fumble 42 yards for a TD to make it 21-0 with 4:22 left in the second quarter.

Two minutes later, Mechanicsburg’s C.C. Shultz returned a fumble 23 yards for a touchdown to cut the deficit to 21-7.

The first half ended with WL-S on top, 21-7.

In the third quarter, WL-S’s TDs came on Wilcoxon’s 62-yard run, Nick Shifflet’s one-yard scamper and a 71-yard pass from Shifflet to Jacob Evans.

Mechanicsburg’s Conley Bogard tossed a 14-yard touchdown pass to Austin Haynes with one second remaining in the fourth quarter to provide the final margin.

The Tigers had 377 total yards compared to 228 for the Indians.

Next Friday night, WL-S (7-1, 3-0) plays at Triad and Mechanicsburg (5-3, 1-2) plays at Northeastern.

West Jeff 34, Triad 6

WEST JEFFERSON – Triad fell to West Jefferson, 34-6, in OHC football Friday night.

West Jefferson jumped out to a 6-0 lead early in the first quarter.

The home team led, 13-0, early in the second quarter and Triad cut the deficit to 13-6 later in that period.

By halftime, West Jefferson owned a 20-6 lead.

Triad (1-7, 0-3) hosts WL-S next Friday night.

In junior high football on Thursday, Brandel Sullivan helped lead WL-S to a 16-6 victory over Mechanicsburg by throwing an 8-yard touchdown pass to Jack Harman and later scoring on a 19-yard run. Sullivan also had 2 two-point conversion runs to complete the scoring.

On defense Lucas Cook had a fumble recovery, Kipton Crowder had a sack and Grant Krabill had multiple tackles for loss.

Mechanicsburg did not report statistics.

West Jefferson beat Triad, 32-0, in junior high football on Thursday.
