WL-S routs West Jeff; Mechanicsburg, Triad fall

WEST LIBERTY – Nick Shifflet passed for 211 yards and three touchdowns as WL-S routed West Jefferson, 43-6, in OHC football Friday night.

Shifflet had a pair of TD passes in the first quarter as WL-S sprinted out to a 30-0 lead at the half.

For WL-S, Jack Bahan had three receptions for 130 yards and two touchdowns and Reese Oder added a TD catch.

The Tigers had 325 total yards compared to West Jefferson’s 115, which included minus-21 yards on the ground.

WL-S (6-1, 2-0) plays at Mechanicsburg next Friday night.

Fairbanks 48, Mechanicsburg 36

MILFORD CENTER – Fairbanks held off Mechanicsburg, 48-36, in OHC football Friday night.

Midway through the first quarter, Conley Bogard tossed a 60-yard touchdown pass to Chris Ritchie to give the Indians an 8-0 lead.

Ryker Green’s 77-yard TD run moments later tied the game at 8-8.

One minute later, Fairbanks’ Jack Nicol returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown to give the home team a 15-8 lead.

Moments later, Bogard threw a 63-yard TD pass to make it 15-15 at the end of the first quarter.

Early in the second quarter, Bogard connected with Tevin Mitchell on a 25-yard touchdown pass to make it 22-15.

Green scored on an 86-yard run a minute later to tie the score at 22-22.

Midway through the second quarter, Fairbanks’ Holtz Maine returned an interception 70 yards for a TD to make it 29-22.

An interception by Fairbanks late in the second quarter led to a Braydon Wiedmann 45-yard scoring run to give the home team a 35-22 lead.

Late in the third quarter, a 17-yard scoring run by the Indians cut the deficit to 35-29.

Fairbanks’ Carter Miller scored on a 15-yard run early in the fourth quarter to make it 41-29.

The Indians came right back and scored on Bogard’s 22-yard pass to cut the deficit to 41-36 midway through the fourth quarter.

Three minutes later, Mechanicsburg turned the ball over on downs at the Fairbanks’ 46, and Green iced the game with a 27-yard touchdown run two plays later.

The Indians (5-2, 1-1) host WL-S next Friday night.

Northeastern 47, Triad 18

NORTH LEWISBURG – Northeastern knocked off Triad. 47-18, in OHC football Friday night.

Early in the first quarter, NE’s Jackson Jones scored on a 10-yard run to make it 7-0.

Triad responded with a touchdown pass three minutes later to cut the deficit to 7-6.

Moments later, the Jets went up 14-6 on Carter Spriggs’ one-yard run.

Late in the second quarter, NE’s Jacoby Newman connected with Seth Rose on a 10-yard touchdown pass to make it 20-6 at the half.

Midway through the third quarter, NE’s Diezel Taylor hooked up with Jones on a two-yard touchdown pass as the Jets took a 27-6 lead.

NE’s Cody Houseman scored on a 15-yard run late in the third quarter to make it 34-6.

Early in the fourth quarter, Spriggs had a 20-yard rushing TD as the Jets opened up a 40-6 lead.

The Cardinals added a rushing TD with three minutes left in the fourth quarter to make it 40-12, but the Jets found the end zone again moments later on Garrett Chadwell’s 60-yard run.

Triad had a touchdown pass a minute later to provide the final margin.

The Cardinals (1-6, 0-2) play at West Jefferson next Friday night.

Northeastern beat Triad, 22-6, in junior high football on Thursday.

On Thursday, West Jefferson downed WL-S, 36-24, in junior high football.

Brandel Sullivan had a part in all 0f the scoring for the Tigers with a 9-yard touchdown run, a 6-yard touchdown pass to Aiyden Moxley and a 6-yard TD pass to Case McIntosh. Sullivan also ran for 2 two-point conversions and threw a 2-point conversion pass to Nate Shively. Sullivan also had an interception on defense.
