WL-S boys win Bob Schul Invitational

WEST MILTON – The West Liberty-Salem boys cross country team kicked off the season by winning their 6th consecutive Bob Schul Invitational on Saturday. The Tigers won the D1/D2 race.

Top placers for WL-S were Caleb Larson 5th 16:28.7, Asher Knox 6th 16:31.6, Dylan King 8th 16:37.9 (PR), Asher Cole 13th 16:48.5, Bryan Gullett 26th 17:12.1 and Troy Bradley 34th 17:33.3.

“It was a phenomenal start to the 2024 competitive season,” said WL-S Coach Mike Louden.” Any time you can win an invitational is amazing, but to do it this year racing up a division against D1 schools is pretty special. All 20 of these guys have been training consistently the entire summer and the results are a testament of that.”

The WL-S girls team finished 4th out of 19 complete teams in the Division 3 race.

Summit Country Day won with 62 points, Minster had 68, Madeira had 74 and WL-S had 116.

For the Tigers, Gwen McCullough and Malia Miller led the team finishing 4th (20:15) and 5th (20:19), respectively, in the race of 190 finishers.

Also placing for the Tigers were Isla Leichty 25th (21:54), Addi Wallen 36th (22:24) and Ivy Matthews 51st (23:09).

“I was very impressed with how the girls battled with hot temperatures and a competitive field,” said WL-S Coach Aaron Lauck. “Minster is the defending state champion. Summit and Madeira will be two of the top teams at our regional meet. Gwen and Malia did a great job running up front and taking care of business.”
