County fair opens this week

The Champaign County Fair begins Friday, Aug. 2.

Daily admission including amusement rides is $8 per person with children under 2 admitted free.

On opening night, the Champaign County Classic Truck/Tractor Pull will be at the grandstand. Admission to the grandstand is $10 per person.

On Saturday is the NTPA Pull with admission to the grandstand $10.

Sunday evening is the annual Champaign County Fair Queen Contest sponsored by Vernon Funeral Homes, followed by the 4-H and FFA Boy and Girl of the Year and Pig and Calf Scramble. High school bands from around Champaign County. will also perform. Admission for Sunday evening grandstand events is $2.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evening admission to the grandstand is free for viewing harness racing.

Tuesday is Senior Citizens and Veterans Day.

Wednesday is Youth Day with kids’ activities at the grandstand in the afternoon. Also on Wednesday from 7:30-10 p.m. will be Big Time Wrestling on the free stage located on the south side of the Michael’s Building.

Thursday evening’s grandstand activities will include a rodeo and singer Leah Crose. Admission is $5 with kids 10 and under admitted free.

Friday evening at the grandstand is the Demolition Derby. Admission is $10.

The fair ends on Friday, Aug. 9.
