Members of the Champaign County Arts Council Art Club have celebrated local talent with three events so far and they want to know if you or someone you know has talent that should be showcased. Also, do you like the idea of bus trips to museums and other cultural destinations?

Please send your suggestions to the attention of Mike Major at [email protected].

The Art Club, a subsidiary of the Arts Council, hopes to identify individuals and gather ideas for future public events. Traveling as a group to museums, art studios and theatre performances is also being planned.

Some sessions will be social gatherings to enjoy just getting to know each other and perhaps sampling wine. So far the Art Club has sponsored three events. Urbana native J.Q.A. Ward’s story as the Dean of American Sculpture has been presented. Debbie Loffing shared her amazing artistry combining antique elements with hand-made ceramics. Also, Christina Darding, Savanah Niarchos and Tom Kushmaul presented a wonderful music performance recently at the home of Ken Wright.

“Our goal is to provide social gatherings featuring local talent periodically, every other month to start,” according to organizers, Ken Wright, Victoria Banion and Mike Major.

“Some of these events will take place in private homes of people willing to host them. We want these to be fun gatherings of the public who share an interest in creativity to get to know each other and on occasion to witness and engage with our outstanding local creative folks. We will consider visual and performing artists, culinary arts, writers, designers, story tellers, choral groups, you name it.”

Champaign County and the surrounding region has been home to a great deal of talent over the years including Billy Clifford, J.Q.A. Ward, Clancy Brown and many more currently adding to the quality of life in our region. Your help in identifying talented people and suggesting cultural locations to visit is much appreciated.
