Mercy Health is seeking new volunteers to serve patients at Urbana Hospital and Springfield Regional Medical Center. Those interested in becoming a volunteer must apply and interview.

Mercy Health volunteers are part of a professional team, providing compassionate service and support to our patients and staff. They serve in many capacities and locations, including the birthing center, surgery waiting room, lab, pharmacy, gift shop, imaging center, and more. Last year, our volunteers donated nearly 24,000 volunteer hours.

Bob Stough is a dedicated volunteer, who has been volunteering with Mercy Health since 2001. He says this about his experience as a volunteer:

“After numerous back surgeries, I realized how nervous and anxious patients awaiting a procedure would be. I knew if I could make them feel a little better, make them smile a little, and help them feel more comfortable about their upcoming procedure, I could feel better about myself and feel that I’ve accomplished something worthwhile; 22 years and almost 8,000 hours later, I still have that good feeling. I’m still trying to make patients comfortable, and still hoping to see that smile!!”

Gabbie Ramos, a surgery waiting room volunteer, joined the Mercy Health team in 2022 while attending Wright State University. She is currently volunteering while working toward applying to medical school. Gabbie shared, “I volunteer because I like to provide a helping hand to those in need and make sure no one ever feels alone with what they’re going through.”
