MECHANICSBURG – The Mechanicsburg Village Council met on Monday, Sept. 18 at a regularly-scheduled meeting in the municipal building .

Village Administrator Roger Brake presented the administrator’s report. He stated that the Phase 2 Water Project has begun. The project is expected to “jump around” a little bit due to material shortages. He shared that all of the manhole cover risers have been placed. There were several manhole covers which would require special-sized risers to be ordered. These specialized sizes would cost about $1,200 in total. The council decided to forgo ordering the specialized size.

Brake went on to state that a quote for $5,346.50 was received for new 12-inch tile to mitigate the flooding issue that the village building has been experiencing. Goshen Township has agreed to split the cost of this. Council approved this expenditure.

Finally, Brake stated that AES has been contacted about several dilapidated light poles within the village. The poles have been marked with red dots and are slated to be replaced.

Fiscal Officer Dan Eck presented council with Appropriation Measure 23-04 which appropriates $70,000 from the water fund for the rehabbing of the water filters. He then presented Resolution 23-13 which accepts the rates established by the budgeting commission. He stated that this shows all of the levies that the village has and what the commission expects will be brought in from these levies next year. Both were passed by the council.

Mechanicsburg Police Department Chief David Patrick shared the department’s list of citations for the month.

Mechanicsburg Fire Department Assistant Chief Steve Castle shared with the council that since the approval of the pay rate rise for the department, there has been a renewed interest and an increase in applicants. He stated that they have held several interviews just within the last week.

The village council will meet next on Monday, Oct. 2, at 6:30 p.m. in the municipal building.
