The sixth Pay It Forward Kids Sale will be held Saturday, Sept. 23, from 9 a.m. to noon, offering families with children a wide selection of affordable, new and gently used infant, children’s and junior size clothing and shoes, toys, maternity items, and gear such as strollers, bedding and bikes.
The consignment sale, a mission of the Urbana United Methodist Church, will be held at 1471 E. U.S. Route 36, Urbana, between SVG Urbana, LLC and Kids Learning Place and across the street from the Dairy Corner.
About 50 sellers will participate in the sale. Sellers price their items in $1 increments and keep 80 percent of their sale proceeds – 90 percent if they volunteer to help with the sale. The remainder of the proceeds covers costs of the sale and support local child-related services. Sales are by cash or credit card. A suggested donation of $1 will be collected at the door.
Pay It Forward Kids Sale coordinators manage the sale, record sales and pay sellers for items sold. The coordinators are Shannan Beard, Elizabeth (Zibby) DeWitt, Corinne (Cori) Mowrey and Lindsey Hess.
“With families of our own, we know how expensive it can be to keep growing kids in clothes,” Mowrey said. “We want to make providing for your family affordable, so we created the Pay It Forward Kids Sale. We also want to give back to the community. We knew that using the earnings from our sale could have a real impact on our community.”
Proceeds from previous sales have been used to:
* Provide vouchers to families in need through the WhereHouse, Kids Learning Place and The Sycamore House
* Make monetary donations to the school supplies drive organized by the Messiah Lutheran Church
* Sponsor a family of four during the holidays
* Donate new sneakers to Urbana City Schools, to be distributed to children in need
* Donate money to support local parenting classes
* Give Walmart and Kroger gift cards to families in need
