LEBANON, Ohio (AP) — A 68-year-old man arrested in Arizona last year in a 1992 Ohio slaying is due in court for a pretrial hearing.
The Warren County prosecutor plans a press conference after Tuesday’s hearing, indicating there could be a resolution of the case in the works ahead of the scheduled Oct. 31 trial.
Sam Perone (pir-OHWN’-ee) has pleaded not guilty to murder and denied involvement in the death of Richard Woods, a rival furniture salesman. The body of the 41-year-old Dublin, Ohio, man was found with gunshot wounds to the head in a ravine near Perone’s Lebanon (LEB’-uh-nun) store. Blood was found on a square of carpet in the store.
Perone was arrested last year in Phoenix. He has been jailed in Ohio on $750,000 bond.
