PARMA, Ohio (AP) — An inmate found dead in a suburban Cleveland jail last weekend likely died of natural causes.
Authorities say Dmitriy Frunza (deh-MEE’-tree FRUN’-zah) died in the Parma City Jail Sunday a day after he arrived at the facility following treatment for an undisclosed medical condition at a Cleveland area hospital.
Parma police Lt. Kevin Riley says federal privacy laws prohibit him from identifying the condition but says natural causes are suspected and not foul play or suicide.
Frunza was taken to jail because of two misdemeanor warrants. He was held in an observation cell for 14 hours Saturday, and then moved to his own cell.
Police said he was found dead about 9 a.m. Sunday but seemed fine just over an hour earlier. The Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH’-guh) County Medical Examiner is investigating.
