Driver gets 13 years in prison for killing 2 pedestrians

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A driver accused of causing a crash that killed two pedestrians in downtown Columbus has been sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Terrence Trent tearfully apologized to the victims’ families in court Tuesday. He says if he could die to bring them back, he would.

The victims’ relatives also spoke in court about the lives lost and effects on their families. Some of them and the judge found Trent insincere in his remorse.

The 63-year-old Trent was accused of recklessly driving his truck into a school bus that then hit the two victims in December 2014. He was convicted of aggravated vehicular homicide.

Trent testified that the crash happened as he was being assaulted by a passenger in his truck and that he was panicking and it wasn’t his fault.
