Man gets 7-year term in Christmas Eve shooting of 2-year-old

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A southwest Ohio man has been sentenced to seven years in prison after he was found guilty of firing at a vehicle and striking a 2-year-old boy in the head.

Montgomery County prosecutors say 20-year-old Nickolai (NIHK’-oh-leye) Gray Jr. shot into a car last Christmas Eve in Dayton and hit a boy who had been in a child car seat. The driver then sped off and crashed into a tree.

Police say Gray, of Dayton, had a dispute with a passenger in the car.

He was found guilty by the court in early June of felony assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises and having a weapon while under disability.

The child, Christian Green, had been hospitalized in serious condition but has since recovered.
