LEBANON, Ohio (AP) — An inmate accused of fatally beating another inmate at a state prison in southwestern Ohio has been indicted on a murder charge.
Warren County’s prosecutor says Casey Pigge was indicted Monday on charges of aggravated murder and possessing a deadly weapon while under detention. The Chillicothe (chihl-ih-KAHTH’-ee) man is charged in the Feb. 23 slaying of 26-year-old Luther Wade, of Springfield at Lebanon Correctional Institution. The 28-year-old Pigge and Wade were cellmates.
Court records don’t list an attorney for Pigge.
Prosecutor David Fornshell says Pigge allegedly carved mortar out of his cell wall and hit Wade several times with a cinder block extracted from the wall.
The prosecutor didn’t suggest a motive.
Pigge is serving 30 years to life for aggravated murder and other charges from a 2009 Ross County conviction.
