DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A federal judge has delayed trial for an Ohio college student charged for rushing the stage at a Donald Trump presidential campaign rally.
Judge Sharon Ovington on Tuesday reset the trial from this Friday to Aug. 29 for 22-year-old Thomas DiMassimo. He has pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of illegally entering a restricted area. It carries a potential one-year prison sentence and possible fines with conviction.
Attorney Jon Paul Rion is contending that the court should dismiss the case. He has said the Wright State University student was only trying to ensure that his political views were heard.
Video from the rally at an airport hangar north of Dayton shows that DiMassimo touched the stage where Trump was speaking as Secret Service agents and other security officers converged.
