Prosecutors seek to drop charges in stolen sapphire case

CLEVELAND (AP) — A prosecutor is seeking to dismiss charges against a part-time university employee accused of stealing sapphires from a Cleveland museum.

Court documents show that the Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH’-guh) County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion to have the charges against 36-year-old Hans Wrage dismissed in a way that could allow them to be re-filed.

Wrage has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from the December theft of seven of the gemstones from the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.

WJW-TV reports Wrage’s attorneys say they can show he was elsewhere when the heist occurred. They want charges dismissed so that prosecutors can’t refile them.

Wrage is a part-time employee on leave from John Carroll University near Cleveland.
