Prosecutor says officer shooting of suspect justified

CINCINNATI (AP) — A prosecutor says a Cincinnati police officer who fatally shot a bank robbery suspect while working a private security job should be commended for his bravery.

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters (DEE’-turs) said Friday there was no reason to take the case to a grand jury to consider charges. Authorities say a masked man charged into a Fifth Third Bank on Wednesday afternoon, then vaulted over the counter with a gun in a plastic bag and demanded money.

They released bank surveillance video showing that 19-year police veteran Kevin Hankerson moved between the bank teller and suspect and fired. They say the suspect dropped the plastic bag with a .38-caliber Derringer inside as he fled.

Twenty-year-old Terry Frost was found dead in a nearby wooded area.
