CINCINNATI (AP) — Cincinnati police say a man suspected of attempted bank robbery was fatally shot by an off-duty police officer working private security and fled to nearby woods where he was found dead.
Cincinnati Police Chief Eliot Isaac says the suspect fled the bank after being shot Wednesday by the uniformed Cincinnati police officer. Isaac says K-9 units tracked the suspect to the wooded area where police found his body.
Police say the suspect had reportedly indicated he had a firearm. Isaac said the officer shot “in defense of himself and bank employees.” The identities of the officer and suspect haven’t been released.
Police are expected to release more information at a Thursday news conference.
Isaac says the officer has been placed on paid administrative leave while the investigation continues.
