Man pulled from Lake Erie drowns, officials say

CLEVELAND (AP) — Officials say a man is dead after apparently falling into Lake Erie.

A Cleveland Metroparks spokesman says the man was pulled from the lake Sunday afternoon in Cleveland.

Officials say the man had been seen in distress about 40 feet away from the shore near a fishing platform.

U.S. Coast Guard crews who had been training nearby were able to pull the man from the water. He was taken to an area hospital where officials say he later died.

Authorities haven’t released his identity.

Officials say a cause of death hasn’t been officially determined. Authorities say they suspect he drowned.

An investigation is underway.
