CINCINNATI (AP) — Officials say a proposed recreation center in Cincinnati will receive $3.5 million from the city.
Councilman P.G. Sittenfeld says $2 million would be set aside from the city’s budget this year. The rest would come from next year’s capital budget. That money would be combined with an existing pot of $500,000.
A news release says the center will cost between $6.5 million and $7 million.
The facility would replace a community and senior center inside a repurposed restaurant. Exact designs and the building site haven’t been determined.
The councilman says up to $2.5 million could be needed to build a recreation similar to a rendering proposed by the city’s Recreation Commission.
Sittenfeld says the center will provide gym space for area schools and serve 10 percent of the city.
