Some Ohio communities receive a thin blanket of May snow

CLEVELAND (AP) — Communities throughout Greater Cleveland got a wintry surprise Sunday morning with snow falling throughout the area.

The National Weather Service reported only a trace of snow at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport on Sunday. Cleveland.com reports (http://bit.ly/1TDHNko ) that some communities east of Cleveland saw snow accumulating on the ground and roofs of buildings.

People running in Sunday’s Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon and the event’s shorter races had to contend with high winds, temperatures in the 30s and large flakes of wet snow falling throughout the morning.

Cleveland.com says weather records show that the last time snow fell in Cleveland during the month of May was in 2011.

After a low of around 37 degrees Sunday morning, temperatures climbed into the 40s by noon.
