Sheriff: Man, 25, shoots himself after standoff in NW Ohio


OTTAWA, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio man remains hospitalized in critical condition after authorities say he shot himself during a standoff with police.

WTVG-TV in Toledo reports (http://bit.ly/1s3iPVG) that Putnam County sheriff’s deputies tried negotiating with 25-year-old Matthew Mullins for more than two hours before he shot and injured himself.

Deputies had responded to reports of a man with a gun in the village of Ottawa around 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

He was transported by air to St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, where he continues to be treated.
