Ohio man accused of causing fetus death sentenced

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A prosecutor says a southwest Ohio man accused of beating his pregnant girlfriend and causing her fetus’ death has been sentenced to 46 years to life in prison on murder and other counts.

Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. says 25-year-old Tanner Devon Hopkins was sentenced Thursday. Tanner was found guilty this month on charges including murder, involuntary manslaughter, reckless homicide and felonious assault.

A message seeking comment was left for Hopkins’ attorney.

Police say they found the pregnant woman lying in the street, crying for help on January 13, 2015. Authorities say she had bruising on her chest and stomach. Heck’s statement says an emergency C-section was performed at the hospital. But the 7-month-old fetus was dead, with authorities citing blunt force trauma as the cause of death.
