MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (AP) — Police in Ohio say one of two young brothers found badly beaten at a motel has died.
The Middletown police chief confirmed the 5-year-old’s death to the Hamilton-Middletown Journal-News (http://bit.ly/1SOOx1a ) on Friday.
Police allege adults beat the boy and his 6-year-old brother over a 22-hour span, injuring them so badly that emergency responders were left in tears.
The boys’ 26-year-old mother, a female friend and that woman’s mother are jailed on charges of felonious assault and child endangering.
Maj. Mark Hoffman says investigators believe the boys were wrapped in sheets and beaten after one took food. Officers responding Wednesday to a 911 call found the younger boy with life-threatening injuries and his brother hurt. Both were hospitalized.
The women will be arraigned Friday. It’s not clear whether they have attorneys.
