3rd ex-Ohio officer sentenced for theft from drug dealers

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — A former suburban Cleveland narcotics detective is heading to prison after admitting to participating in a scheme to steal thousands of dollars from suspected drug dealers.

Thirty-four-year-old Antonio Malone was sentenced on Tuesday in federal court to nearly six years behind bars and ordered to pay more than $23,000 in restitution. The former East Cleveland detective previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy.

Malone is the last of three East Cleveland officers to be sentenced in the case.

Torris Moore, the former supervisor of the street crimes unit, was sentenced to nine years behind bars earlier this month in the case. Former Detective Eric Jones was also sentenced to nearly four years in prison.

Authorities say the officers conducted illegal searches and falsified search warrants while stealing from suspects and compromising cases.
