Search under way for University of Cincinnati police chief

CINCINNATI (AP) — The University of Cincinnati is searching for its next police chief less than a year after a former campus officer was charged with murder for shooting a motorist during a traffic stop.

Police Chief Jason Goodrich and Major Tim Thornton resigned in February. The motorist, Samuel DuBose, was fatally shot by officer Ray Tensing last July.

The resignations of the school’s top police officers followed interviews that uncovered managerial mistakes and “gaps.”

University officials tell The Cincinnati Enquirer (http://cin.ci/1TRYZqR ) that the school seeks candidates for chief and assistant chief who mirror the makeup of the community. A review of applications for the positions is expected to begin later this month.

Tensing’s trial is scheduled for October. He’s pleaded not guilty.
