COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio Gov. John Kasich (KAY’-sik) is ready to announce steps to reduce the number of people who kill themselves each year.
State officials say 1,200 to 1,500 people die by suicide annually in Ohio.
Health, mental health, addiction services and Medicaid officials planned on Wednesday to announce plans to reduce suicides.
Programs will include more resources for survivors, collaboration on crisis hotlines, research and ways to reduce the stigma surrounding suicide.
Officials say a goal is identifying suicide prevention as a major public health issue.
