SANDUSKY, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say a suspected drunk driver was seriously injured after police say he slammed into an Ohio State Highway Patrol post.
The crash happened just after 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Sandusky post. Police say a Ford Fusion was traveling at a high rate of speed when it traveled off the roadway, overcorrected and went onto the lawn of the patrol post.
Investigators say the car hit a large concrete sign and crashed into the front of the highway patrol building. The car’s 24-year-old driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected. The Castalia man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Authorities say he doesn’t have a valid license.
Police say alcohol and speed likely contributed to the crash.
