CINCINNATI (AP) — A former Kansas governor and Cabinet secretary whose father once led Ohio will be the featured speaker at a Cincinnati-area Democratic Party gathering.
It will be a homecoming on April 13 for the Ohio-born Kathleen Sebelius (SUH’-bill-yuhs), whose late father John J. Gilligan served as Ohio’s governor in the early 1970s, and as a congressman. He died in Cincinnati in 2013 at age 92.
Sebelius was governor of Kansas in 2003-2009. She then became President Barack Obama’s secretary of health and human services, serving during the bumpy rollout of his health care overhaul.
The Hamilton County Democrats say they are offering discounted tickets of $50 in addition to the usual $150 tickets for the annual Century Club reception, to allow more people to see Sebelius.
