Ohio inmate indicted following alleged prison escape

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A convicted murderer captured about 24 hours after he was found missing from an Ohio prison has been charged with escape.

Authorities haven’t said how inmate John Modie allegedly got out of the Hocking Unit of the Southeastern Correctional Complex in Nelsonville last month.

The Logan Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/1qDAK4G ) Modie was indicted Friday in Hocking County court on one charge of escape.

The 58-year-old Modie has since been transferred to the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility, a maximum security prison in Lucasville.

It was unclear if he had an attorney assigned to him to respond to the charge.

Authorities say Modie was captured at an abandoned gas station in Nelsonville a day after his alleged escape.

Modie was accused of beating a Cleveland woman to death in 2002.
