COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Police have identified the officer who shot and wounded a knife-wielding man in a Columbus man.
Investigators said Thursday that Officer J.C. Hale shot 40-year-old Randal Paden when the suspect refused to drop a knife and advanced toward officers Wednesday night.
Authorities said officers responded to the home for a report of a man threatening a woman with a knife. Police tried to use a stun gun to subdue the man, but when it didn’t stop Paden, police say Hale, a four-year department veteran, shot him multiple times.
Paden remains in stable condition.
Paden is charged with domestic violence and assault and additional charges are pending further investigation.
Court records didn’t list attorney information for Paden.
