DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A prosecutor says a southwest Ohio man accused of beating his pregnant girlfriend and causing her fetus’ death has been found guilty of murder and other counts.
Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. says 25-year-old Tanner Devon Hopkins was found guilty Thursday on charges of murder, involuntary manslaughter, reckless homicide, felonious assault and on weapons-related counts.
A message seeking comment from Hopkins’ attorney wasn’t immediately returned Friday
Police say they found the pregnant woman lying in the street, crying for help on January 13, 2015. Authorities say she had bruising on her chest and stomach. Heck’s statement says an emergency C-section was performed at the hospital. But the 7-month-old fetus was dead, with authorities saying blunt force trauma was the cause of death.
Sentencing is set for April 21.
