Abandoned baby girl in box left at Ohio fire department

DELPHOS, Ohio (AP) — Hospital officials say a newborn girl left in a box at a northwest Ohio fire department earlier this week is doing well.

Platoon Chief Scott Warnement tells the Delphos Daily Herald the baby was wrapped in a blanket and inside a box when he found her around 4 a.m. Tuesday at the Delphos Fire Department, about 70 miles southwest of Toledo. It’s believed she was only hours old.

A supervisor at St. Rita’s Medical Center told The Lima News the baby was in stable condition.

Delphos police Sgt. Greg Foust says police are investigating.

Under Ohio’s Safe Haven laws, parents are allowed to leave babies up to 30 days old at designated safe havens, including fire departments.
