CINCINNATI (AP) — Authorities in southwest Ohio say a police officer shot a man during an encounter along Interstate 75.
The wounded man was hospitalized early Tuesday afternoon. No information on his condition was available. The shooting resulted in the closing of southbound lanes on I-75 below I-275, about 20 miles north of Cincinnati.
Police say they don’t know the man’s identity or where he’s from.
Authorities say a Glendale police officer had pulled over after seeing the man walking along I-75 carrying a bag. There were initial reports that the man had a knife, but investigators didn’t immediately confirm that.
Glendale Police Chief Dave Warman says it appears that an altercation occurred when the officer asked to check the man’s bag before giving him a ride in his cruiser.
