It remains unclear whether the new action from the European Union will deter the waves of humanity fleeing war and deprivation from taking to the sea to seek better lives in Europe. BRITAIN-MIGRANT RESCUE – The text came in broken English, but it was frightening enough to set off a trans-Atlantic rescue effort that saved the lives of a young Afghan boy and 14 other migrants trapped in a locked truck in England. “I ned halp darivar no stap car no oksijan in the car no signal iam in the cantenar. Iam no jokan valla,” read the message that flashed on the cellphone of a charity volunteer attending a conference in New York. UNITED STATES-IRAQ – John Kerry is visiting Baghdad to meet Iraq’s leaders and discuss the fight against the Islamic State.
