Mechanicsburg advances to state in duals

COLDWATER – On Wednesday, Mechanicsburg defeated West Jefferson, 65-12, and Coldwater, 43-19, to advance to the school’s second consecutive Division III state team duals tournament.

Against West Jefferson, Tyler Wetzel (113 pounds), Sam Rozmus (126), Nick Miller (132) and Dylan Hartman (285) each won by pin.

Wade Smiddy (145) and Kaleb Romero (160) won by technical fall.

Dustin Knapp (170) and John Samples (182) also won contested matches.

In the regional final against Coldwater, Wetzel (113), Romero (160), Dylan Hartley (220) and Hartman (285) each won by pin.

Alex Rhine (120) won by technical fall.

Miller (132), Tanner Smith (138), Smiddy (145) and Corey Bogan (152) all won contested matches.

Mechanicsburg will wrestle at the state duals tournament beginning at 11 a.m. on Feb. 14 at St. John Arena in Columbus.

M’burg girls fall

SPRINGFIELD – Northeastern beat Mechanicsburg, 60-46, in OHC girls basketball on Thursday.

The Jets out-scored the Indians, 34-22, in the second half.

For Mechanicsburg (5-15, 3-11), Elly Schipfer and Sydney Hux each scored 16 points and Mikayla Dodane had 10 points and 7 assists.

Triad girls lose

CEDARVILLE – Triad fell to Cedarville, 56-28, in OHC girls basketball on Thursday.

Jenna Ober tallied 20 points for the Cardinals (5-15, 2-11), who scored only 10 points in the second half.

Cedarville won the jayvee game, 53-16.
