Local track athletes advance to regionals

ST. PARIS — The Division II district track and field championships concluded on Saturday, with a few local athletes from Graham and Urbana finishing in the top four to advance to the regional competition.

Earning third were Nick Johnson (UHS, 100) and Tyler Powell (GHS, 400).

Taking fourth were George Bugg (GHS, 110 hurdles) and Powell (GHS, 200).

Also scoring were the Urbana boys’ 4×200 team, the Urbana boys’ 4×100 team, Ty Horsley (UHS, 400), Carly Carafa (GHS, 200), Zack Caudill (GHS, 200), the Graham girls’ 4×400 team and the Graham boys’ 4×400 team.

Division III

WEST MILTON — The Division III district track and field championships concluded on Saturday, with a few local athletes from West Liberty-Salem, Mechanicsburg and Triad finishing in the top four to advance to the regional competition.

Winning events were Christian Parker (WLS, 100), Raiph LeVan (WLS, 400) and Eli O’Brien (THS, 200).

Snagging second were the WLS girls’ 4×200 team of Payton Umphries, Taylor Lauck, Lydia Moell and Janie Kopus, the WLS girls’ 4×100 team, LeVan (WLS, 200) and Lydia Moell (WLS, pole vault).

Earning third were the WLS boys’ 4×200 team of Parker, Konner Smith, Ian Wolfe and Raiph LeVan, Reghan Bieleski (WLS, 3200), Noah Smith (WLS, 3200) and the WLS girls’ 4×400 team.

Taking fourth was Grace Adams (WLS, 3200).

Also scoring were Ian Wolfe (WLS, 100), O’Brien (THS, 100), the Triad boys’ 4×200 team, Sam Strickland (WLS, 800), Parker (WLS, 200), Holly Cole (THS, 3200), Thad Lawrence (WLS, shot put) and Alex Fitzpatrick (WLS, high jump).

“Raiph and Christian continue to impress with their sprint performance. They keep improving every meet and right now they are focused on qualifying for the finals at the regional meet,” WL-S Coach Joe Taylor said.

The regional meet will take place at Troy Stadium on Wednesday and Friday.
