Stapleton places at junior high state meet

West Liberty-Salem eighth-grader Katelyn Stapleton placed in two events at the inaugural OHSAA 7th and 8th grade State Track and Field Championships held at Lancaster’s Fulton Field House on Saturday.

In the 1,600-meter run, Stapleton placed third (5:09.55) and in the 800-meter run she placed fourth (2:21.40).

Teammate Anna McGill, also an 8th grader, placed 15th in discus (77-03).

The top 16 performances from the regular season earned qualifying spots in each event.

The West Liberty-Salem boys track team finished 2nd in the North Division of the Ohio Heritage Conference Meet held at West Liberty.

Standout performers were Nick Burden, who was first in the 1,600 (4:52 OHC meet record), 800m (2:17) and high jump (5-04).

Dawson Jenkins was first in the pole vault (10-0), setting a school record and Issac Brown was 1st in the 110m hurdles (18.95).

13-u softball

JWP played Pioneer of St. Paris on Saturday.

Madison Harvel hit a 3-run homer over the fence for JWP.
