BECKLEY, W. Va. – Urbana University baseball scored a season-high 13 runs in each game of Friday’s doubleheader sweep of Ohio Valley at Epling Stadium. The Blue Knights came out on top 13-7 in the first game and then claimed the series win following a 13-5 victory in Game 2.

UU improved to 3-3 overall, going 2-1 this week after a 1-2 showing last weekend, while Ohio Valley dropped to 2-7 on the young season.

The Blue Knights scored seven runs on seven hits in the top of the sixth inning to overcome a 7-6 deficit in Game 1. Isac Franklin led things off with a single and later scored on an error to tie the game at 7-7. Then, Dylan Sheffer came up with a clutch pinch-hit single to center field to put UU back in front 9-7.

Daniel Quiroz later doubled with two outs in the inning, putting two runners in scoring position, then Mickey Barea, Damario Brown and Franklin provided three consecutive hits that ended up scoring four more runs.

UU had built a 6-1 lead going to the bottom of the fourth, but the Scots worked their way back into the game with five runs.

With the score tied 1-1 in the second game, UU began the top of the third with three straight hits including a lead-off double by Mickey Losey and RBI single from Quiroz to give UU the lead. Brown followed with a sac fly and then UU worked the bases loaded. With one out, Coy stepped up and smashed a grand slam to left field for his second long ball of the day. That put the Blue Knights ahead 7-1 and UU added three more in the fourth and three in the sixth to cruise the rest of the way.

UU returns to the diamond next weekend in Columbus against No. 14 Mercyhurst on Saturday and Ohio Dominican on Sunday.
