West Liberty teams sweep UU

West Liberty University swept Urbana University at the Grimes Center on Thursday, taking down the women, 69-67, and the men, 121-90.

In the women’s contest, West Liberty overcame 16 lead changes and nine ties while scoring 20 points off of 18 UU turnovers on its way to victory.

Marissa Brown scored 23 points in the win for West Liberty (9-18, 8-13) while Brandi Beader netted 13. Johnie Olkosky tallied nine points for the Hilltoppers and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Sylvia Hudson paced UU (6-19, 3-18) with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Stefanie Davis drained 16 points with Jennifer Alfen notching 10 in the loss.

UU held a 67-66 lead with 1:51 left in the game before Grace Foder’s three-point play secured the win for West Liberty.

In the men’s contest, DeQuan Abrom had 21 points to lead the Blue Knights. Jahmere Howze had 17 points, Carlas Jackson had 16 and Jimmy Weinke added 16.

West Liberty (25-2) led at the half, 58-50.

David Dennis had 28 points to lead the visitors.
