WL-S girls top Northeastern in sectional

PITTSBURG – West Liberty-Salem took care of business in the Division III girls basketball sectional on Saturday, downing OHC rival Northeastern, 68-39.

The top-seeded Tigers took a commanding 34-16 lead into halftime and blew the game open in the third quarter, outscoring the Jets 24-5 in the frame.

For WL-S (22-1), Mikalia McIntosh had 18 points, including 4 three-pointers. Kelsey Day added 13 points, Lily Yoder had 11 and Paige Shafer scored 10 for the Tigers.

Hayley Suchland scored 31 of Northeastern’s 39 points, including six baskets from beyond the arc.

West Liberty-Salem advances to play Brookville on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Graham girls fall

NEW CARLISLE – Tippecanoe beat Graham, 67-29, in the Division II girls basketball sectional at Tecumseh on Saturday.

Tipp, the second seed, opened with a 25-9 first quarter and never looked back.

Graham finishes the season at 4-19 overall.

Graham upends Raiders

Sophomore Chase Adams led the way for Graham, hitting 8 of 12 from the free throw line in the 4th quarter, and finished with a game-high 19 points as the Falcons beat Ben Logan, 52-47, in CBC/MRD boys basketball.

Graham (10-12, 7-6) has won three in a row and seven of its last 10 heading into tournament play.
