Kalen Howell scored a team-high 18 points as Urbana defeated visiting Shawnee, 52-40, in CBC/KTD boys basketball Friday night.

“It was kind of a grind-it-out win, but we found a way to win,” said UHS Coach Jeremy Dixon.

Levi Boettcher added 10 points for the Hillclimbers (13-9).

Urbana won the jayvee game, 46-28.

The Hillclimber varsity will play either Indian Lake or Kenton Ridge on Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. in the Division II sectional at Springfield High School.

Thomas scores 7

PITTSBURG – In Triad’s 86-16 loss to second-seeded Versailles in the Division III girls basketball sectional on Thursday, Tori Thomas led the Cardinals with 7 points.

“That’s one of the top teams in Division III in the state of Ohio,” said Triad Coach Jeff Merklin of Versailles. “I told our girls to forget the score, but not the game. Learn from what they just played against how they are good, why they are good, and attack this off-season. I like our team very much; I hope they take it to heart. We’ve played some tremendous basketball teams this year. West Liberty, Cedarville, Greeneview, Versailles, and more. We have the natural talent to improve and achieve. We have a great staff. We can improve.”

Triad finishes the season with a 4-19 overall record.
