ATHENS, W. Va. – Sylvia Hudson’s career performance with 27 points and 12 rebounds led Urbana University’s women’s basketball team to an 82-73 road victory at Concord Tuesday night inside the Carter Center.

UU (4-7) posted its third-highest scoring output of the season, while knocking down a season-high 30 free throws on 33 attempts (91 percent). The Blue Knights picked up their first conference road win and captured their third straight victory over Concord (2-10).

Hudson, who has been on a tear recently, picked up her third straight double-double. The freshman forward scored the most points by a Blue Knight this season on 12-of-14 (86 percent) shooting. Danie Shafer and Megan Beachy each posted 17 points, along with Stefanie Davis who contributed 10. Erin Morrow had nine points and six boards while Mikayla Ward pulled down eight caroms.

UU led 37-30 at halftime, paced by Shafer’s 15 points over the first two quarters.

Then, CU closed the gap to 54-53 at the end of third quarter and grabbed the lead briefly at the start of the fourth, but the Knights countered quickly and held on the rest of the way.

After Concord claimed a 57-56 lead early in the fourth quarter, Beachy drained a 3-pointer followed by a Hudson bucket to lift UU back in front with 7:39 to go. Beachy made her second trey with 4:47 left to extend UU’s lead for good.

“We found a way to win,” said UU Coach Haley Ducey. “We made free throws and out-rebounded them, it wasn’t pretty by any means, but our girls fought hard for 40 minutes and gutted out the win. Sylvia (Hudson) was dominant in the paint and had another big game for us.”
