Legends to visit Mitchell Hills

Pro Football Hall of Famer Dick LeBeau (left) and former American League All-Star pitcher Ned Garver (right) will be hosting their annual Legends Golf Classic at Mitchell Hills Club in Springfield on Saturday, July 18.

The annual Ned Garver/Dick LeBeau Legends Golf Classic – benefiting the United Way of Clark, Champaign and Madison Counties – will be held on Saturday, July 18 at 1 p.m. at Mitchell Hills Golf Club in Springfield. The golf tournament – which is sold out – will feature goodie bags for participants and door prizes courtesy of several area businesses.

“Dinner with Dick LeBeau” will be held that evening beginning at 6 p.m. in the Mitchell Hills clubhouse. Dinner tickets can be reserved for $25 each by calling 937-869-4553 (leave message), but seating is limited. Other Legends scheduled to be in attendance include Cincinnati Bengals’ Coach Marvin Lewis, former Bengals’ safety David Fulcher, former Cleveland Browns’ offensive tackle Dick Schafrath, former Ohio State football standout Galen Cisco, former major league pitcher Ed Whitson, etc.

Raffle tickets will be sold that day for $2 each or 6 for $10 for a drawing to be held at the end of the evening to benefit the United Way. One winner will receive an 11×14 matted and framed autographed photo of Jack Nicklaus and one other winner will receive an 8.5×11 framed autographed photo of Duke basketball’s “Coach K.”

Raffle tickets are also available at the local United Way office through July 17.

Both LeBeau and Nicklaus are honorary members of Mitchell Hills Golf Club, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.

LeBeau, a London, Ohio, native and member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, is currently the assistant head coach/defense of the NFL’s Tennessee Titans and was formerly the head coach of the Bengals.

“It will be good to see everyone again (on July 18),” he said.

Mitchell Hills Golf Club is located at 5350 Morris Road in northern Clark County.
