Westfall shoots 74 at state golf tournament

SUNBURY – Mechanicsburg’s Caleb Westfall shot a 74 on Friday and is currently in 4th place at the Division III state golf tournament at NorthStar.

The tournament concludes today.

WL-S wins in volleyball

WL-S beat Triad, 26-24, 24-26, 25-18, 25-18, in OHC volleyball on Thursday.

For the Tigers, Tory Cordell had 20 kills, 6 digs and 2 blocks, Alex Burton had 11 kills, 14 digs and 10/11 serving, Kaylee Harrison had 9 kills, 2 digs and 4 blocks, Olivia Ames had 38 digs, 11/12 serving and 2 aces, Hallie Strapp had 23 digs and 4 kills and Allie Yoder added 10 digs, 22 assists and 2 aces.

Triad won the jayvee match, 25-14, 25-10.

For WL-S, Cukki Kubua had 8 digs and 5/5 serving, Abby Dillon had 8 digs, Lexi Mullen had 2 kills and 1 block and Peyton Orahood was 7/7 serving with 3 aces.

JH football

Hayden Simpson rushed for 158 yards on 16 carries and 2 touchdowns, but Triad couldn’t overcome a 12-0 halftime deficit and lost to Southeastern, 24-14. Also scoring for Triad was quarterback JC Alexander, who ran in the extra-point conversion after the Cards’ first touchdown.

Defensively, Triad (2-5) was led by Batai Lease with an interception and Diego Hernandez, who recovered a fumble.

The 7th grade Cardinals defeated the 7th grade Trojans, 6-0, in an extra quarter, as Ayden Sanford ran 46 yards for the only score.

Graham’s 7th graders beat Tecumseh, 44-22. Standouts for GJHS were Seth Suttles, Zach Vanscoy and Brent Case.

WL-S defeated Springfield Catholic Central, 44-0.

Jace Wade led the scoring for the Tigers with 2 punt returns for touchdowns and a 65-yard TD reception from QB Logan Saylor. Jake Wilcoxon added to the scoring with a 23-yard touchdown run and a 2-point conversion run. Austin VanHoose had a 38-yard TD run and Cooper Havens had a 35-yard touchdown run. Cam Strapp, Mearic Campbell and Jimmy Dillon each scored on 2-point conversion runs.

Strapp also helped lead the defense with 2 sacks. Avery McGuire had a sack while Garrett Heater added an interception.
