Blue Knights to host WVWU

The Urbana University football team is set to host West Virginia Wesleyan for Saturday’s homecoming football game at UU Stadium. Kickoff for the Mountain East Conference showdown is scheduled for 1 p.m.

UU (2-4) is riding high entering the Week 7 matchup after a 54-7 rout of Cincinnati Christian last week. The Blue Knights, who totaled 579 yards, set numerous records in the first home win for head coach Tyler Haines and are looking to keep the momentum rolling.

Led by wide receiver Trevon Saunders, UU is averaging 24 points and 311 yards on offense per game. Saunders, who now ranks third all-time in UU history for most career touchdown receptions, is tied for fourth in the nation for receiving touchdowns with nine.

Defensively, the Blue Knights improved last week and allowed a school-record low three completions for 23 yards.

However, UU will need to focus on stopping the run against the Bobcats, who feature the MEC’s leading rusher in Michael Anderson (146.3 yds/gm, 7 TD). Anderson lit up the Blue Knights last year with 176 yards on the ground and a touchdown.

Despite a 1-5 record, the Bobcats have played well this season. They’ve lost three games by four points or less and led their opponent in every game but one. WVWC is coming off a 34-17 setback to undefeated Fairmont State.

Alumni and fans should be sure to stop by the UU Spirit Tent prior to the game, located just outside the main entrance to the stadium. The first 100 guests to swing by and complete an update form will receive a free UU alumni gift.

Also on Saturday, the UU volleyball team will host Concord at 9 a.m. and UU softball will host an alumni game at 9:30 a.m.
